Keyword placement is very vital during a business’ Search Engine Optimization endeavors. Where you decide to place selected keywords and phrases is going to depend on the market in which you are targeting and the search engine that will be ranking your pages.

Trying to come up with the perfect combination of keywords and phrases to drive in traffic to your site is one of the biggest challenges of SEO. It is not something that you just jump into one day and then expect to be successful. It’s better to start off slow and build your way to greater success.

CODANK Keyword Tips:

  • Create a keyword list
  • Combine and analyze the results
  • Pick your keywords and use them on your web site
  • Consult with a Search Engine Optimization specialist
  • Ask about keyword placement services

You should not use keywords repetitively for no apparent reason at all. For example, if you choose “Charlotte Web Design” for your phrase, do not do the following on your page:

Charlotte Web Design, Charlotte Web Design, Charlotte Web Design….and so on.

This is considered spam and can cost your page to be penalized and even banned from major search engines. There are also many tags within the HTML of your webpage that keywords can technically be used in. But, be careful because some search engines will penalize for keywords in certain tags as well.

As a general rule, keywords are typically placed within some or all of the following:

  • Title Tags
  • Description Tags
  • Keyword Tags
  • Heading Tags
  • Link Text
  • Alt Text
  • Site Maps
  • 404 Pages
  • Domain Names
  • Page Names

Do you know how to identify a potentially good keyword phrase as opposed to a bad one? It’s not as difficult as you may believe. In it’s simplest form, a good keyword is one that will make you money. Some keywords may get you a lot of traffic but if that traffic fails to convert into money, its a waste of time!

There are a number of attributes I look at when assessing whether to target a particular keyword phrase or not. Lets have a look at those attributes now.

Profit Potential

What I mean by profit potential is the likelihood that someone searching on a particular keyword phrase will actually spend money based on the results they get. For example if someone use the word ‘free’ in their search phrase, it indicates they are not about to part with any cash, they are just looking for free information on the subject they are interested in. Whereas if they include the word ‘buy’ or even ‘review’ they are much more likely to be actively searching for something to buy. Also if their search phrase includes a specific product name or model number they are again more likely to be in a buying frame of mind. Also the more the person searching needs a solution to their problem, the more likely they. For example, answers to relationship or appearance problems would fall into the desperate buyer category. Therefore look for search phrases that are in the form of questions within these categories, an example would be the search phrase ‘how to catch a cheating partner”.

Try and put yourself in the mind of the searcher when evaluating potential search phrases. Think about what frame of mind the person is in. Are they in buying mode or research mode? Are they feeling emotional, vulnerable or desperate? A good indication of the profit potential of a keyword phrase is how much PPC advertisers are prepared to pay to advertise on the phrase. You can find this information for a phrase using Google’s free keyword tool. It shows you search volumes and PPC amounts. The higher the PPC figure, the more likely you will be able to make money from the keyword.

Traffic

Unless you are using software to automatically generate hundreds of web pages or blog posts, you want to identify keywords that get reasonable search volumes each month. By reasonable I mean 500 plus searches per month. I personally target keywords with a minimum of 2,000 monthly searches for my niche site homepages and 500 for other pages or posts. If you use content automation software that instantly generates hundreds or thousands of pages, you can obviously target keywords with very small monthly search figures, because 1,000 pages each getting 10 searches per month is nice traffic!

Competition The competition for a keyword is measured typically by how many other pages are competing or optimised for your targeted keyword phrase. Optimised pages are what you need to be interested in. Personally I look to see how many competing pages have my keyword included in their page title. This gives me a good indicator of what the real competition is for the term, as people have actually optimised their page to rank well. How competitive you can be will also depend on your ability to get inbound links to your pages. The higher you want to rank for your term, the more links you will need pointing in to your content.

So in summary, profit potential, search volumes and competition should be the attributes you use to choose your keyword phrases to optimise your sites around.

There are millions of things searched for on Google and the search terms, the keywords, the keyword phrases, etc. are what they use to search for information and things. What you want is to know what your searcher is looking for make that work to find you!

How do you do that? It’s not nearly as hard as you think, and it’s the way all the masters get their pages to the top for their selected keywords.

Here’s the way anyone can rank for a certain keywords at the top of Google. And why do you want to do that?

Traffic!  Targeted traffic!  Money Making traffic! The traffic YOU want!

If the person types in “red umbrellas” and you have a good offer for red umbrellas then you want them to find you right at the top of the Google organic listings…FREE!

Free targeted traffic …it really doesn’t get any better than that.

So, here’s the plan. You have picked a keyword. Now you set out to get put at the top of Google Page One for that term.

First – Put the keyword in your domain name! Or, at least do it this way…http;//www.yourdomainname.com/keyword.

Second – Put a bunch of relevant content on your page with the keyword in it several times but not over 1%.

Third – Now that that page is up, you can write an article describing the benefits of the offer on that page while using your “keyword” in the Title and Body of the article.

Fourth – This is the “coup de gras” as the French like to put it or “the biggie” as Americans are fond of saying. You write an authors resource box that asks the reader to click back to your offer for more information and the clickback (not Clickbank) hyperlinks have to look just like this example… “For the best in [rain umbrellas] selection and accessories go to my page on [rain unmbrella] (I use the singular and the plural) and NOW you have what Google wants to see. Keyword text links back to YOUR site!

Getting ranked for a keyword is largely a popularity contest. The more “rain umbrella” text links pointing to your “rain umbrella” page that has your “rain umbrella” offer on it, the higher goes your ranking. One day you’ll write that last article who’s text link pushes you to the top.

One way to get a lot of the anchor text backlinks you need for Google to see fit to put your offer page at the top of Page One is to write an article and put those text links in your resource box. Everybody does this. It works.

Still, if you only submit one article to one place you are going to get only one backlink or maybe two if you go for two different keywords.

I like to write one article and get dozens to hundreds of backlinks. So would you!

And before I go off topic too far, let me suggest that you look into one of these “mass submission” article outfits. It’s what I use and I have thousands of links going all over and growing.

Even better than that is the fact that I’m on page one for some of my terms and I’m picking up more and more targeted Google traffic all the time.

This is something that works and it’s something you can do!

Riley West recommends that you should start putting up offers and driving traffic to them! It’s one of the quickest ways to see how much money you can make!
